hills and roundabouts

Ancaster has a village main street, the 403 and the Linc, and some of the trickiest roundabouts around. She comes to you, wherever you are in town.

Ancaster

why it’s good practice

A bit of everything in one town

Few places pack in this much variety: two-lane roundabouts on Wilson Street West, steep roads down into the Dundas Valley, two highways, and quiet streets in the Meadowlands.

where you’ll practise

Ancaster roads worth practising

From gentle single-lane roundabouts to the 403.

  1. Wilson Street East

Ancaster’s village main street, with painted bike lanes. It runs downhill toward the 403 and Main Street West, so it doubles as hill practice.

  2. Wilson Street West roundabouts

Two-lane roundabouts at Meadowbrook and Hamilton Drive, at Shaver Road, and at McClure Road and Portia Drive. Picking the right lane before you enter is the whole skill.

  3. Stonehenge Drive

A row of single-lane roundabouts in the Meadowlands. A gentler place to learn roundabouts before trying the two-lane ones.

  4. Golf Links Road

A divided road past the Meadowlands Power Centre, with bike lanes and busy plaza entrances.

  5. Highway 403 and the Linc

The 403 has interchanges at Wilson Street West, at Highway 6 South and Fiddler’s Green Road, and at Rousseaux Street, where the Linc heads east across the Mountain.

  6. Sulphur Springs and Old Dundas Road

Steep two-lane roads down into the Dundas Valley. Good for slow, steady control on a hill.

what people book

What Ancaster is good for

Between the hills and the roundabouts, Ancaster is a good place to practise hill parking and to build the judgement the G2 road test asks for. With the 403 and the Linc right there, it’s also a short hop to highway practice.

good questions

Lessons in Ancaster: questions

Do you give driving lessons in Ancaster?

Yes. She comes to you anywhere in Ancaster, and lessons can take in the village, the Meadowlands and the 403.

How do I drive through a two-lane roundabout?

Choose your lane before you enter, following the signs and the arrows painted on the road. Slow down, yield to traffic already in the roundabout, stay in your lane, and signal right just before your exit.

Which way do I turn my wheels when I park on a hill?

Facing downhill, turn your front wheels toward the curb. Facing uphill with a curb, turn them toward the road; uphill with no curb, turn them sharply right. Then set the parking brake.
