Busy streets, lots to watch

The streets around campus are busy with pedestrians and cyclists, which makes them great practice for the scanning and patience the road test looks for.

where you’ll practise

Around campus

Slow, busy streets with highway ramps right next door.

  1. Main Street West

Wide and busy along the edge of campus, past McMaster University and the McMaster University Medical Centre.

  2. King Street West in Westdale

Shops, crosswalks and painted bike lanes through Westdale Village. Slow down and keep scanning.

  3. The Westdale side streets

Quiet residential streets with lower speed limits, like Newton Avenue and Paisley Avenue South, plus the curved North and South Ovals. Good for a first lesson.

  4. Highway 403 at Main Street West

Ramps to the 403 at Main Street West and Aberdeen Avenue, right beside campus. A short drive to highway practice.

  5. Cootes Drive

The divided road to Dundas, which picks up speed as it leaves the city.

  6. Emerson Street

A lower-speed street through Ainslie Wood, on the south side of campus.

what people book

Lessons around a student schedule

Lessons run seven days a week by appointment, so they can fit between classes, and she drives to you, so there’s no trip across the city first. One reviewer, Heremela, mentioned her flexible schedule for students and working professionals.

New drivers usually start with beginner lessons. If you already drove somewhere else, the newcomer’s licence guide explains how licences from other countries work in Ontario.

good questions

Lessons in the McMaster area: questions

Do you give driving lessons near McMaster University?

Yes. She drives to you in Westdale or Ainslie Wood, and lessons can use the streets around campus.

I’m an international student. Can I take lessons?

Yes. If you have a licence from another country, how you get an Ontario licence depends on where it’s from, and the newcomer’s licence guide explains the options. Lessons help with whatever is new to you about driving here.

Is there construction around campus?

Some. Metrolinx is doing utility inspections for the Hamilton LRT along the McMaster to Eastgate route until the end of 2026, with flaggers and detours where needed.
