East end roads to practise on

From the Delta to Kenora Avenue, plus the parkway in the valley.

  1. The Delta

Where King Street East and Main Street East meet and the downtown one-way streets end. A busy junction with angled approaches and turn lanes.

  2. The Queenston Traffic Circle

A two-lane circle where Queenston Road, Main Street East, Bell Avenue and Strathearne Avenue meet. The signs differ from entry to entry, so read the one where you enter, then signal before you exit.

  3. Barton Street East

A four-lane truck route with plaza entrances and left turns across two lanes of oncoming traffic. It’s being resurfaced between Victoria and Kenilworth Avenues until late October 2026.

  4. Ottawa Street North

A 40 km/h shopping street with parallel parking, buses and lots of people crossing. Its south end at Main Street has been closed since August 2026 for about four months of work ahead of the LRT.

  5. Kenilworth Avenue

A four-lane street with a school zone that leads to the Kenilworth Access up the escarpment. At the foot of the climb is a small circle at Kimberly Drive.

  6. The Red Hill Valley Parkway

On-ramps at Barton Street, Queenston Road and King Street onto a parkway posted mostly at 80 km/h. Good for merging practice, and G1 drivers may use it.

  7. Around Kenora Avenue

The DriveTest centre sits between Barton Street East and Queenston Road, just west of Centennial Parkway. Kenora Avenue is a quiet two-lane street; nearby Nash Road has lane restrictions until the end of 2026.

Lessons near the test centre

If your road test is at Kenora Avenue, G2 test prep can include the streets around the centre, so the area feels familiar on the day. The Red Hill Valley Parkway is a natural next step toward highway lessons and the G test. The Hamilton DriveTest centre guide explains how test day works.

good questions

Lessons in East Hamilton: questions

Is the Hamilton DriveTest centre in East Hamilton?

Yes. It’s at 370 Kenora Avenue, between Barton Street East and Queenston Road, just west of Centennial Parkway. It gives both the G2 and the G road tests.

Can a G1 driver use the Red Hill Valley Parkway?

Yes. It isn’t on the list of highways closed to G1 drivers, so it’s allowed with a qualified accompanying driver. The QEW at its north end is on the list, so leave the parkway before the QEW ramps unless your accompanying driver is a licensed driving instructor.

How does the Queenston Traffic Circle work?

It’s a two-lane circle with five entries, and the signs aren’t the same at every entry. Read the sign where you enter, stop or yield as it says, keep to your lane, and signal before you exit.

Is Main Street East closed at Ottawa Street?

Yes. The intersection has been closed since August 17, 2026 for about four months of underground work ahead of the LRT. Westbound Main Street traffic is detoured north on Kenilworth Avenue and west on Cannon Street.
