country roads
Glanbrook is the countryside in the south of Hamilton, around the airport, Mount Hope and Binbrook. Long two-lane roads and speed limits that change from 40 to 80 km/h make it a different kind of driving from the city.

why it’s good practice
Country roads at real speed
Most of Glanbrook’s rural roads are posted at 60 to 80 km/h, with drops to 40 or 50 in the villages. Judging speed, distance and gaps out here builds skills that city streets don’t.

Glanbrook roads to practise on
Upper James Street, south of the Linc
The limit steps up from 60 to 70 to 80 km/h past the airport, drops to 40 through the centre of Mount Hope, then rises to 80 again toward Highway 6. Watching the signs is half the lesson.
Highway 6
Posted at 80 km/h for its whole length through Glanbrook. Good for holding a steady highway speed before the 400-series highways.
Airport Road
Past John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, with an 80 km/h stretch to the west and 60 to 70 km/h to the east. Long and straight, so keeping your speed steady takes attention.
Binbrook Road and Regional Road 56
Both leave Binbrook at 50 km/h and step up through 60 and 70 to 80. Practise speeding up smoothly as the signs change, and slowing down in time on the way back in.
Dickenson, White Church and Chippewa Roads
Long two-lane rural roads, mostly posted at 60 km/h, good for steady speed, scanning far ahead and checking your mirrors on open road.
Trinity Church Road and Golf Club Road
The long roads that link the villages, mostly at 60 km/h. Much of Trinity Church Road is a Community Safety Zone, where speeding fines are doubled, and Binbrook Road and White Church Road meet it at an offset junction.
The Chippewa Trail crossings
The old railway line through Glanbrook is now a trail, and it crosses six roads, including Twenty, Dickenson, Airport and White Church Roads. Watch for cyclists and walkers where the rails used to be.
Glancaster Road
The road along Glanbrook’s western edge, posted up to 80 km/h and without street lights in places. One to practise in daylight first.

What Glanbrook is good for
Country roads teach you to judge speed and distance, which helps on any road test. Highway 6 and the 80 km/h stretches are a gentle step toward highway driving. For quieter streets to start on, the Mount Hope and Binbrook pages cover the villages, and Binbrook has plenty of roundabouts to practise.

good questions
Lessons in Glanbrook: questions
Are there railway crossings in Glanbrook?
No. No active railway runs through Glanbrook. The old line is now the Chippewa Trail, which crosses several roads, so watch for cyclists and walkers there. The nearest real level crossings are in Caledonia and Stoney Creek.
What is the speed limit on Glanbrook’s country roads?
Mostly 60 to 80 km/h. Highway 6 is 80 for its whole length here, while roads like Dickenson, White Church and Trinity Church are mostly 60. Limits drop to 40 or 50 in the villages.
Are there roundabouts in Glanbrook?
Yes, mostly in and around Binbrook, which has about ten within two kilometres of the village centre, plus a couple of small ones in the newer neighbourhoods off Trinity Church Road. There are none on the rural roads or on Highway 6.
Do you give lessons all over Glanbrook?
Yes. She drives to you anywhere in Glanbrook, including Mount Hope and Binbrook.
