lake to escarpment

Stoney Creek has the QEW, the long climb up Centennial Parkway, and the Hamilton DriveTest centre a few minutes away. A handy place to get ready for both road tests.

Stoney Creek roads worth practising

Down by the lake and up on the escarpment.

  1. The QEW

Fast and busy along the lake. East of Hamilton it’s one of Ontario’s 110 km/h sections, so merging here takes confidence, which is exactly what lessons are for.

  2. Centennial Parkway

Seven lanes wide at King Street, then a long climb up the escarpment as Upper Centennial Parkway. Lane choice and hill driving on one road.

  3. King Street East

Stoney Creek’s old main street, with bike lanes on both sides and Battlefield House Museum close by.

  4. New Mountain Road and Ridge Road

New Mountain Road climbs the escarpment in about a kilometre. At the top, Ridge Road runs along the edge past the Devil’s Punchbowl.

  5. The Red Hill and the Linc

The Red Hill Valley Parkway meets the Linc at Mud Street and Stone Church Road. Most of the Red Hill is posted at 80 km/h.

  6. Upper Stoney Creek

Newer streets with roundabouts on First Road West, and Mud Street, a divided road that moves quickly.
